 Summary 
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by enhancing the health of our patients and community by optimizing nutritional care through education and Medical Nutrition Therapy. The Clinical Dietitian II serves as an active member of the interdisciplinary team to identify clinical needs, implement interventions and provide education. The Clinical Dietitian II assumes accountability for self-development, following policies and procedures and meeting regulatory requirements. They serve as a role model and mentor to other clinical staff, are involved in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, educational materials and outcome measures. 
 Job Description 
 Job Duties 
 Assesses patient needs and documents in the patient's medical record for care provided.
 Serves as an active member of the interdisciplinary care team.
 Provides nutritional care to patients in assigned area, in a timely fashion and according to policies and procedures.
 Provides nutrition information and programs in the hospital or for the community.
 Serves as a mentor for dietetic interns.
 Provides leadership and direction to physicians and staff regarding nutrition and educational needs of the patient population served.
 Develops educational materials or conducts in-service programs as needed for patient, staff or the community.
 Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
 Department Specific Duties 
 Food & Nutritional Services 
 Serves as a mentor, specific to area of practice, to peers and other staff.
 Educates with nursing, process changes.
 Completes projects, as assigned, related to individualized areas and specialties.
 Is disease specific expert and provides patient education within the continuum of care.
 
 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
 Expert in medical nutrition therapy with emphasis on nutrition needs of specified patient populations.
 Ability to do patient nutritional assessment and to implement nutrition interventions.
 Good judgment and critical thinking skills for problem solving and planning of patient care.
 Maintains positive attitude in work environment and manages personal frustration in a professional manner.
 Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the workplace and good verbal/writing skills.
 Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process as it relates to the nutrition needs of the patients and ability to apply all steps of the process.
 Knowledge of the Assessment, Data, Intervention, Monitoring and Evaluation (ADIME) charting format.
 
 Professional Experience 
 Six months of hospital experience is preferred.
 
 Education 
 Master's degree in Dietetics or related field and/or Specialty certification in Diabetes, Renal, Nutrition Support, Pediatric or Gerontology, Oncology or Sports Nutrition is required.
 
 Licensure, Certification, Registration 
 Registered with the Commission of Dietetic Registration; and RD or RDN licensure in the State of Iowa are required.
 Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.  Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
 Medical Cancer department only - Specialty Oncology certification required within 3 years of hire.
